Girl Child Network (GCN) is an independent membership organisation that is non-political, non-religious and non-profit registered in Kenya, Reg. GCN was established in 1995 after the Fourth World Conference on Women, in Beijing by participating Kenyan civil society organisations to facilitate in implementation of the Beijing Plan of Action, specifically Article 12, (The Girl Child) and to coordinate Child Rights programming in Kenya, with emphasis on the girl child. Focus areas for members include but is not limited to child protection, gender, democracy and governance, research, policy advocacy, education, health, capacity development, HIV/AIDS and emergency response.
In the year 2000, Girl Child Network was officially registered as CBO. To expand our legal mandate, regional and programmatic scope, Girl Child Network was registered as a Charitable Trust Deed in 2006 and eventually as an NGO in 2012. Since then, we have grown from one project to multi-sectorial programmes in Education, Health & Nutrition, Human Rights & Legislation, Gender & Governance, Disaster Risk Reduction, Research & Documentation and Institutional Strengthening.
Our gender-sensitive and rights-based approach keeps the focus on girls, boys and the youth and reminds them that they have the power to build the world they want to live in!
